The frozen margaritas blended by bar man Dean Schaller had guests coming back for a Òtopper.Ó Refreshing they were, ideally not too sweet, although Peter Falk opted for his preferred Scotch on the rocks, while wife Shera Danese swooned into Senorita Margarita. Channeling into the good-time spirit, Shera and Joanna Poitier boogied to the hot rhythms of the five-piece Charanga Latino band Ð they were in the courtyard that surrounds the swimming pool of hosts Corinna and Freddie Fields, who were celebrating their 25th wedding anniversary, with Corinna also toasting her birthday. The FieldsÕ Spanish-style residence in Beverly Hills has been renovated by Freddie, an unsung architectural talent, into a design that flows around the courtyard. Freddie, as industry chums know, is the producer of numerous films, including Glory which won Denzel Washington his Oscar. And heÕs the legendary agent who represented Judy Garland, Paul Newman and Barbra Streisand and who knows who else, co-founded the Creative Management Agency, which morphed into ICM. An Athenian beauty, Corinna was crowned Miss Greece and Miss Universe, and has been a stalwart member of Share that contributes major funds to childrenÕs charities. SheÕs joined forces now with FoxÕs Ann and Jim Gianopulos and the Rev. Father John Bakas, dean of the historic Saint Sophia Greek Orthodox Cathedral near downtown Los Angeles, to create the DreamMaker charity for youngsters in the cityÕs Òhot zoneÓ for gangs. ÒWeÕre setting up career options, with California Pizza KitchenÕs Rick Rosenfeld giving us a kitchen at our headquarters, and heÕll have chefs teach classes that will be rewarded with diplomas Ð and jobs. WeÕll teach acting, electrical work, plumbing, etc., and this month weÕre sending 200 kids to their first Summer Camp.Ó You know who your friends are when Ann and Jim headed to the Big Apple overnight for the premiere of the heart-pumping Live Free or Die Hard, starring Bruce Willis, only to return the next afternoon so as not to miss Corinna and FreddieÕs evening. Ann shared the news that JimÕs daughter Mimi was accepted by Carnegie Mellon UniversityÕs drama department Ð Òone of four applicants accepted from one thousand!Ó ÒThe Elvis Presley of Greece,Ó offered Corinna about singer Sakis Rouvas. ÒI attended his Athens concert and never heard such shouts from 10 to 80 year olds.Ó Sakis stopped by after the Police concert at the Staples Center, stayed late, and enjoyed El CholoÕs Mexican buffet with Sidney Poitier, that best-looking couple of Sports ClubÕs Nanette Pattee Francini and UniversalÕs Jim Urie, Father John Bakas with wife Maria, the Greek Consul General Dimitris Tziras, Sandra Moss, who the night before attended Rosemarie StackÕs dinner party for 15 honoring AmericaÕs foremost couturier James Galanos. Kathy and Rick Hilton arrived in time for dinner, Kathy having visited the Lynwood Jail Complex, with Rick noting that daughter Paris was Òadjusting,Ó and, as the world knows, was released this week to crazy hoopla. Here and there were Kit and Jay Kanter, Cindra and Alan Ladd, Paul Mazursky, Carrie and Bernie Brillstein, Gary Pudney, Laura Lizer and Rob Ward, Bui Simon (Miss Thailand) with husband Herb of the Simon shopping mall dynasty, Jolene and George Schlatter, Wendy Stark, Dominick Dunne, Joan and Marty Ransohoff, David Niven Jr., Wendy and Alan Riche, Tina Sinatra, Michael Klein, Richard Perry, Ginny Mancini, Patricia and Tom Bosley, Annabel Begelman, Esther Rosenfeld, Neile Toffel Adams, Lorna Berle, Marianne Rogers, Michael Economou, Koula Papageorgiou, Dorothy and Al Wilson, talent agent Philippe Macridis with Norwegian beauty Lise Engebretsen. Family guests included FreddieÕs daughter Kathy Lander with her daughter Natalie, grandson Monty Zimmerman, CorinnaÕs sons Paris Zax and Andrew Zax with pals Seth Laderman and Johnny Wickham, Steven Zax with wife Daniella. And wouldnÕt you know that Corinna invited friends to houseguest this summer at the FieldsÕ idyllic retreat on the Aegean island of Mykonos. The Wham-Bam-Thank-You-MaÕam Tina Show starring publishingÕs supernova Tina Brown, former editor of Tatler, Vanity Fair, New Yorker and Talk, raised hell in Los Angeles this week. Taking over the town, as it has in Manhattan, Washington and London, Tina promoted her no-holds-barred The Diana Chronicles, which debuts at No. 2 on the New York Times bestseller list this weekend and for which Tina received a $2 million advance. Tina digged deep into media-savvy Princess DianaÕs life, having interviewed 200 sources, and, in truth, seems simpatico with the royals. A romp of a read. Tina weathered a round-the-clock blitz of girlie parties, interviews, din-dins with chums, and among the first soirees was drinks hosted at Spago by stand-tall attorney Bert Fields and his art consultant mate Barbara Guggenheim. A lover of our California lifetstyle and sunshine, Tina, her left wrist broken and bandaged from a luggage scuffle at Heathrow, managed and was in fine fettle, catching up with the hotshots. Tina and family are holidaying in Spain next month. Nice seeing best-dressed Sherry Lansing in a skirt! And looking gorgeously feminine with her cropped pale gray Armani jacket and ArmaniÕs flared Oxford grey skirt. The WhoÕs Who included SpagoÕs Barbara Lazaroff, Edythe and Eli Broad, ICMÕs Jeff Berg, Annette Bening and Warren Beatty, Craig Ferguson with Megan Cunningham, Jena and Michael King, musicmaker Bobby Woods, Sony chairman Michael Lynton with wife Jamie, Peter Bart, Walter Mirisch, Jane and Marc Nathanson, who are devoted readers of the Beverly Hills Courier and FedEx it overnight during summer months to their Aspen pleasure dome, Times film critic Ken Turan, Patt Morrison, who interviewed Tina on her radio show and the following night for Andrea GrossmanÕs popular Writers Bloc series. Others were CAAÕs Richard Lovett and Bob Bookman, Robert Towne, Jason Blum, Dan Melnick, Fred Rosen with Nadine Schiff, ace publicist Judy Hilsinger, Evelyn Heyward, Diane and Ira Reiner, and Roma Downey with Mark Burnett, to whom we mentioned that Tina reveals in The Diana Chronicles that Prince Charles liked to be called Arthur during his lovemaking (shades of King Arthur?). And that the lovemaking occurred once every three weeks. All this and more, including a rundown of the randy Dianamen, so called. WhatÕs next for Tina? ÒDonÕt know, any suggestions?Ó Tina was guest of honor at AARPÕs Brit-style luncheon of PimmÕs Cup and fish and chips at the Bel Air HotelÕs ballroom, planned by her friend Caroline Graham, formerly with TinaÕs magazines. Introduced by David Geffen, Tina was interviewed by AARPÕs Hugh Delahanty. The lively eclectic crowd of 140 included Jane and Michael Eisner, Steve Martin, Vanity FairÕs Krista Smith, Charlie Windisch-Graetz sharing photos of daughter Maximiliana and son Augustin, Catherine Hicks, Morgan Fairchild, Hammer Museum director Annie Philbin, Dick Riordan, Cynthia Yorkin, Nancy Power with son Oliver, Susan Estrich, Peter Rainer, Suzanne de Passe, Lawrence Bender with songbird Lisa Lovbrand, Joan Hotchkis,Betsy Bloomingdale, Barbara and Nancy Davis, Marty Landau, Mimi Rogers, Peter Asher, Rikki Kleiman, who presented Tina with an Achievement Award the next afternoon during the BizBash honors at the California Mart. Honored by BizBash that day were UniversalÕs Hollace Davids, Mary Micucci of Along Came Mary, charity organizers Judy Levy and Ellen Pazanti, creative director Marc Friedland. BizBash is the trade publication for event planners, presided over by David Adler and Liz Familian, and I was happy and proud to present the first Hall of Fame award to Hollace Davids, with whom I have a history of friendship for more than 30 years. As UniversalÕs senior vp marketing special projects, indefatigably orchestrating, year after year, dozens of premieres on both coasts and abroad, sheÕs raised megamillions for eduction, medicine, the environment with these events. And with husband Paul Davids, sheÕs produced the Van Gogh film, Starry Night, and the Saturn Award winning The Sci-Fi Boys. Additionally, Hollace is our Queen of Green, among the first in Hollywood to be committed about the environment. A beloved daughter, mother and wife, Hollace, at her daughter JordanÕs wedding to Nathan Duvall, gifted every guest with a tree seedling and directions for planning. And how many folks do we know who, as happened during dinner one evening at Vert Ð when we discussed global warming and the Artic ice melting -- will lament, with genuine concern, ÒWhat are we going to do about the polar bears?Ó Online at www.bhcourier.com.
